OptionsHouse vs OptionsXpress![]()
And with good reason, OptionsHouse is one of the cheapest brokers around and yet still manage to offer excellent customer service and a powerful trading platform. OptionsXpress are quite expensive compared to OptionsHouse but do have one of the most advanced trading platforms available form any retail broker. Add to that award winning customer service and you have a very capable broker. But which one is right for you? Keep reading to find out.
Services OverviewBoth brokers are identical when it comes to services; they both offer all the products you would expect from a professional brokerage firm. Including the obvious stocks, ETFs, mutual funds and both standard and Roth IRAs. Neither broker offers Certificates of Deposits, but since they’re available from any high street bank that’s not really going to be a problem. It’s very difficult to separate these two or any other broker for that matter purely on services offered. They pretty much have all the bases covered, so the difference is going to come down to their respected trading platforms.
Trading Tools OverviewAs I mentioned previously, OptionsXpress have one of the best trading platforms around. It has a multitude of professional grade tools, such as position analyzer, volatility view and a number of powerful screening tools. And yet remains extremely easy to use, this is one click trading at its very best. One click trading is a bit of a metaphor, I don’t know of a platform that requires just one click of the mouse to make a trade, sometimes you have to click several times. But with OptionsXpress a trade can be executed with just two clicks from anywhere within the system. OptionsHouse also have an excellent trading platform, but it’s not as easy to use as the OptionsXpress platform. It feels a little clunky having just come from the OptionsXpress platform, but taken in isolation it’s a fully functioning trading platform with all the tools an intermediate trader is ever likely to need.
SummaryTo sum-up then, you can’t really go wrong with either of these two brokers, if you maintain a large account and regularly make significant trades OptionsXpress is the perfect broker for you. If on the other hand you’re an experienced trader but operate a more modest sized account, then OptionsHouse is the way to go. Their extremely competitive fees are backed up by exceptional customer service and a powerful trading platform. Neither broker is really suitable for a complete beginner. Rookies would be much better served by using a broker like Zecco or TradeKing who have some excellent beginners training and wonderful trading communities for you to immerse yourself in. But for everyone else these are two of the best brokers around. You may also like:
